I wanted to share the new commitments that Nespresso is taking to bring about a greater positive impact on the lives of coffee farmers and on nature.

30 years ago, we started a journey to offer you some of the finest coffees. What makes this experience even more unique is our conviction that coffee can be a force for good because it can shape communities and preserve landscapes for the better. As a valued Nespresso partner, you can also be part of this movement for change.

The new reality we are all facing has also moved us to accelerate our plans in order to achieve in 2 years what we had initially planned to accomplish over the course of 10 years.

  1. First, we commit to accelerate reducing, reusing and recycling. This year we have already started using recycled aluminium in our in home-capsules to complement the already existing capsule collection systems in place to make sure the infinitely recyclable aluminium is given a second life after use, and never wasted.

  2. Second, we commit that by 2022 your cup of Nespresso will be fully carbon neutral. We are continuing to reduce the footprint of each cup and are expanding tree planting in and around coffee farms to compensate the remaining emissions of a cup of Nespresso with our NGO partners, the Rainforest Alliance and PUR Projet.

  3. Our third commitment is to ensure farmers achieve a stable and viable living from coffee.We build on 20 years of partnership with farmers, paying them premium coffee prices and encouraging sustainable practices. We will work with our partners at Fairtrade to increase the share of our certified coffees, reducing the risk from market and currency unpredictability in order to protect Nespresso farming communities.
